The NYULMC Department of Anesthesiology and the New York Simulation Center for the Health Sciences (NYSIM) are now offering a one day simulation training course in anesthesia crisis management. We have been approved by the American Society of Anesthesiologist’s (ASA) Committee on Simulation Education to provide simulation training for ABA diplomates seeking to fulfill their Practice Performance Assessment and Improvement (PPAI) requirement for MOCA®. Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be better able to:

  • Evaluate and treat significant hypoxemia from multiple causes, including difficult airway management
  • Discuss principles of crisis resource management and practice teamwork, communication and leadership skills
  • Manage significant hemodynamic instability
  • Describe latest practice advisories and recommendations for managing critical incidents

Each MOCA Simulation Course includes:

  • A minimum of six hours of total course instruction
  • Active participation in realistic simulation scenarios
  • Post-scenario peer debriefing
  • Management of difficult patient-care scenarios
  • An emphasis on teamwork and communication
  • At least one opportunity to be the primary anesthesiologist-in-charge (i.e., the “hot seat”)
  • Small course size of two to eight participants, with two to three instructors per course

Target audience:

Board-certified anesthesiologists in the maintenance of certification process.

Course Cancellation Policy

If the course is cancelled due to inclement weather, insufficient enrolment or any other reason, NYU will refund the registration fees in full. NYU will provide at least two weeks advance notice if cancelling due to insufficient enrollment and as soon as possible in all other circumstances. NYU is not responsible for any airfare, hotel or another non cancellable costs incurred by registrant.

Refund Policy

In order to request a refund you must email at least 3 weeks prior to the course. An administrative fee of $100.00 will be deducted from your refund. Cancellations or no shows after this date are not eligible for refund. Registration is non-transferrable.

Accreditation Statement

The NYU Post-Graduate Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation Statement

The NYU Post-Graduate Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
