The Advanced Venipuncture Arm features a closed blood flow system rather than the Bag and Stand supply that comes with the Standard model. It allows easy adjustment of the pressure. The Advanced arm also has a greater number of vein types.

On June 13—16, NYSIM hosted the Center for Medical Simula-tion’s “Simulation as a Teaching Tool” instructor training course. This course is considered the premier faculty development pro-gram in simulation education. Mary Fey was the course director alongside Demian Szyld from CMS. Grace Ng and Danny Lugassy were course faculty. Course participants included local faculty from NYULMC and CUNY as well as national and international guests who traveled from as far as Paris, France and Bratislava in Slovakia.

Cynthia Reyes received her B.A. in Psychology at CUNY Hunter College. Cynthia had professional train-ing as an Licensed Practical Nurse and participated in specialized coursework in the field of nursing dur-ing her high school years. Having such experience has led her into the simulation world where she had the opportunity to collaborate with nursing educators and prospective nursing students. She believes that building a strong foundation and educating early in a student's careers is key to creating an excep-tional well rounded professional.

Sidney received his A.A.S in Criminal Justice at Onondaga Community College located in Syracuse, NY. Before joining the NYSIM team, he previously worked for the Board Of Education in Long island City, serving as a liaison between Bus Vendors & charter Schools to ensure the best quality service for special needs children. When Sidney’s not working he enjoys going to concerts and playing tennis for recreation. His future endeavors include going back to school to purse a degree in Sports medicine and starting his own tennis clinic for under privileged youth.

Rebecca Pertab, B.A. has a diverse background with experience in clinical office procedures, office administration, and research. She began her career at NYULMC Department of OBGYN supporting the faculty group practice (FGP) as well as the director of the Division of Diagnostic Ultrasound. She has also supported several clinical trials in the Department of OBGYN, Family Planning Division. Rebecca is currently a first year MPH student at NYU with a con-centration in Community and International Health. She joined the Simulation Center in March 2017 as a Simulation Operations Specialist.

Sierra Cutler received her B.S. in Human Physiology at University of Oregon. Shortly after, she moved to New York to complete a year of service with AmeriCorps at Ryan Communi-ty Health Center, where she was involved in community outreach and health education. Sierra also worked as a care coordinator before joining the NYSIM team. When she is not working, Sierra participates on a club women’s rugby team and hopes to apply to nursing school in the coming years.

NYSIM at IMSH 2017

Virginia (Ginny) Drda, NYSIM Program Coordinator, became first time faculty at IMSH 2017 successfully co-presenting a course at the Grand Hyatt Regency in Orlando, Florida on January 30th. More than 65 international participants attended the workshop, “Managing Unprofessional Behaviors in Standardized Patents (SPs)” and learned strategizes to develop the highest caliber of SP teams.

The course was co-designed by Ms. Drda and fellow leaders (pictured below from left to right) - Tony Errichetti (NBOME), Elizabeth Kachur (Med Ed Global), and Anna Lank (C3NY) (not pictured: Karen Adamo-Henry, CUNY).
