Read what's new at NYSIM and in simulation.

NYSIM hosted a 4 hour immersive simulation on Patient Safety and Quality to orient the In- coming Interns to the NYULH culture of being a High Reliability Organization. The program included Group OSCE’s, a Patient Safety Room and Case Based Discussions. In June 2017 we hosted 156 incoming interns from 7 residency programs and this year we will host 205 in- coming interns from 17 residency programs.

The oral abstract presented at SGIM, Simulated First Night-onCall (FNOC): Establishing Com- munity and a Culture of Patient Safety for Incoming Interns, presented at the SGIM 2018 annual meeting, has been selected as the Best Oral Presentation in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety.

Alex Mack - Program Supervisor

Alex Mack has been with our team for 2.5 years. She has had the roles of Simulation Operations Spe- cialist and Senior Operations Specialist. With the support of the Standardized Patient (SP) Program team and the guidance of Dr. Zabar, Alex has transformed the standardized patient program processes at NYSIM. We are fortunate to be able to promote her to a Program Supervisor Role. In this new role Alex will continue to support programs but will also supervise NYSIM standardized patient processes and programmatic changes including technology needs; assist with NYSIM website design; and recruit, train and supervise staff within the SP program.

Senior Simulation Operations Specialist Crysandy Marte has been with our team in the role of Simulation tion Operations Specialist for 1.5 years. Crysandy came to NYSIM with experience from the University of Vermont Clinical Simulation Lab. We are pleased to be able to promote Crysandy to a Senior Simulation Operations Specialist position. Crysandy will continue to support the day to day operations of simulation programs but will also support Sarla Santos, the Assistant Director of Operations, in coordinating and troubleshooting scheduling requests; coordinate the intake/design meetings; assist in the development and implementation of new standard operating procedures and assist with maintaining and enhancing NYSIM’s vendor relationships.

NYU Langone Medical Center

The City University of New York

Since its opening in September, 2011, NYSIM has had more than 50,000 learner visits and delivered nearly 2,000 simulation courses for NYU and CUNY medical, nursing and dental students, residents, staff physicians and nurses, physician assistants, respiratory therapists as well as those in other health care fields. NYSIM offers training to first responders in the New York area, including firefighters and emergency medical service personnel.

NYSIM specializes in training for simulation instructors from NYU, CUNY and other healthcare institutions that would like to enhance their own simulation programs.

Sarla Santos

Assistant Director of Operations

Sarla Santos has been a Registered Nurse at NYU Langone Medical Center (NYULMC) for several years. During her career at NYULMC, she has been a staff nurse in the PICU, Nurse Coordinator at the Hassenfeld Children’s Center, and a Nursing Professional Development Specialist. Sarla is certified in pediatric critical care nursing, nursing professional development and integrative nurse coaching.

Sondra Zabar, MD

Faculty Educator

Sondra Zabar, MD is the Director of the Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at the NYU School of Medicine. She is the Director of the Program for Medical Education Innovations and Research (PrMEIR), established in 2006 with the mission of advancing medical education scholarship at NYU and instituting best practices for patient-centered, evidence-based medical education through research, faculty development, and internal grants program.

Adina Kalet, MD, MPH

Faculty Educator

Adina Kalet, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the New York University School of Medicine and is the Co-Director of the Program on Medical Education Innovation and Research (PrMEIR), whose mission is to advance medical education scholarship and to institute best practices for patient-centered, evidence-based medical education. PrMEIR supports research and practice that strengthen the links between a physician’s training and patient health and well-being. Dr.

Bishop Zachary, MD

Course Director, NYSIM Procedure Prep Course

Dr Zakhary is a clinical instructor of medicine. He completed medical school training at Creighton University. Post-graduate training was at NYU where he completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship including ne year as a simulation fellow. Areas of interest include respiratory failure and ECMO and using simulation for ECMO training.
