Utilization of Family as Faculty During Patient-Directed Simulation Education to Enhance Competency for Patient-Centered Care During Interdisciplinary Rounds

Family centered rounds (FCR) are performed across the country to encourage the patient and family to be an integral part of the health care team. Although the concept of FCR is consistent across different organizations, there are elements that vary in different institutions. This is a study of a patient directed simulation using family council members as faculty to train house staff in family engagement and to establish inter-rater reliability of our developed six competencies communication checklist to cultivate consistency during FCR and to promote a culture of family and medical staff partnership in the delivery of care.
