At the end of December we said farewell to and celebrated the work of one of our esteemed directors, Dr. Grace Ng, PhD. Grace left NYSIM to pursue a new professional opportunity, but will always be a part of the NYSIM family. She was instrumental in the development and expansion of NYSIM as the inaugural Health Professions Director beginning in 2011 and contributed to the advancement of NYSIM’s strategic vision over the last ten years. Dr. Ng successfully increased the visibility and national reputation of NYSIM, and formed numerous strategic partnerships across CUNY and NYULH. She successfully oversaw the growth of key initiatives, including development and implementation of interprofessional education, simulation advisory councils, and scholarly projects. Dr. Ng was an expert in simulation education, and provided professional development in her NYSIM Instructor Course to over 600 learners. Her innovative efforts contributed greatly to the growth and integration of simulation at NYSIM, CUNY, and NYULH. Thank you, Grace, for your service, teamwork, and leadership. We will miss you!
As Grace embarks on the next phase of her career, NYSIM is recruiting for the Health Professions Director position at NYSIM. Anyone interested in the position should reach out to Katie Tame, Administrative Director, on our contact form.

This month NYSIM is thrilled to welcome Katie Allen to our team as Operations Manager. Katie has over ten years of experience in various academic health care settings, most recently as the Project and Operations Manager for the Nursing Department at NYU’s Tisch/Kimmel Hospital. Katie has been with NYU since 2015, working for Patient Experience and Graduate Medical Education prior to Nursing. Before NYU, Katie worked as the Senior Trauma Data Coordinator at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. She obtained her Master of Public Administra-tion in Health Financial Management from NYU, and her BS in Health Policy and Management from Providence College. Please join the entire team in welcoming Katie in this role; we couldn’t be more excited to see how she grows and inspires here at NYSIM.
NYSIM is a world-renowned simulation facility for healthcare professionals that opened in September 2011. We are honored and excited to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. The successful partnership between CUNY and NYUGSOM is due to the vision and foresight of a number of leaders and collaborators: Dean Robert I. Grossman MD, Dr. Steven Abramson, Dr. Thomas Riles, Dr. Antonio Perez, Dr. Andrew Brotman, Richard Donoghue, Iris Weinshall, Sheila O’Loughlin, Judy Bergtraum, Dr. Julia Wrigley, Dr. Demian Szyld, Dana Sunshine, Dr. Sondra Zabar, and Dr. Grace Ng. We thank Drs. Zabar and Ng for continuing to build the educational programs since the opening. We are grateful for the vision of Dr. Donna Phillips, Assistant Dean of Simulation Education, who is committed to innovation, and elevating simulation education to enhance outcomes in patient care, quality and safety.
This month, our team would also like to celebrate the hard work of our National Certification Courses (NCC) Team. This mission-critical program has operated throughout the pandemic, providing the American Heart Association’s (AHA) BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses to our community nearly every day. NYSIM is proud of the exceptional quality of our NCC courses, which is in no small part due to the excellence of our team of instructors: Larry, Candice, Don, and Cynthia! Thank you all for your dedication and engaging teaching styles. A big thank you to our Adult and Pediatric Medical Directors, Dr. Jeff Manko and Dr. Dennis Heon, whose content expertise and leadership have allowed our courses to continuously improve. If you would like to register for one our courses, please see following link: https://nysimcenter.enrollware.com/schedule.
